Tag der Toten Zombies - Black Ops 4 DLC 4
Posted in black ops 4
The final zombies map for Black Ops 4 has been confirmed as "Tag der Toten". The new map concludes the Aether storyline indefinitely in DLC 4., marking the end of not only Black Ops 4 but the end of a zombies experience that has spanned over 10 years. It's certainly going to be an emotional journey as we play Tag der Toten and say goodbye to the best loved Treyarch characters.
Following in the footsteps of the DLC season so far, DLC 4 will again revisit a much loved zombies map from the past - Call of the Dead! This map is one of the few that has never had a remaster or retelling through Black Ops 3 or the Chronicles collection. Set in an abandoned Group 935 Siberian outpost, which features a shipwrecked freighter, a vibrant lighthouse, and a sparse coast, the Call of the Dead map included well known celebrities.
The original map spawned players onto the shoreline with George A. Romero appearing soon after from a lightning bolt in a nearby pool of water. The map also included a unique contraption called the Flinger (which return in a similar form in Die Rise), a new perk called Deadshot Daiquiri and the return of Matryoshka Dolls from Ascension. Most importantly, in a time when Wonder Weapons were "cool", the map offered us the V-R11. This Wonder Weapon had the power to turn zombies back into humans, with them then running away in fear and committing suicide, along with the ability to calm George (temporary) and to make teammates do infinite damage and not be harmed by zombies.
Tag der Toten - New Features
The new map is available on the 23rd September for all platforms.
More details coming very soon...
Teasers and Trailers
Leading up to the announcement of Tag der Toten, Treyarch published a short blog post on Labor Day weekend, giving us the first clues towards DLC 4. The blog post read:
We know our Zombies community has been collectively counting the days, minutes, and seconds until the first hints of our final Aether story experience in Black Ops 4, and it's almost time. As we near the end of the 2019 DLC season, the team has been 100% laser-focused on making this final map the best experience possible for long-time Zombies fans.
We also know the community has been looking forward to tying up all the loose ends from over a decade of storytelling, and we can't wait to share the secrets and surprises to come. In the meantime, we'll have the first details and teasers for DLC 4 coming early next week… so enjoy the long weekend, and we'll see you when you get back.
Trailer
On Friday 6th September, Treyarch revealed the official trailer for Tag der Toten which you can view below:
A Tough Time for Treyarch
No long before the announcement of Tag der Toten, Treyarch had been going through hell and back. With many rumours circulating to the departure of not only Jason Blundell but also Vonderhaar. It's been a dark time for the once beloved Treyarch team which previously used to shine with the minimum of effort. Much of the recent crisis is of course a consequence of the inconsistency of Black Ops 4 which is loved by some and despised by others.
No matter which side of the fence you sit, I'm sure you'll be joining us to say one final farewell to the COD Zombies universe...maybe for the last time.
The Great War
Throughout the Black Ops 4 Aether storyline we've witnessed the changing of the Kronorium, a book which was supposed to lay bare the future. Richtofen was sacrificed at the end of Blood of the Dead, in an emotional and surprising twist which had some fans almost in tears.
Successfully reaching round 150 on Alpha Omega activated a secret cutscene where Nikolai explained that there was "a war to fight". Dempsey immediately questions "a war?" to which Nikolai explains "A war unlike any you have ever seen. The Great War".
This Great War is further confirmed by the ending cutscene for Alpha Omega in which Samantha makes a surprise appearance before speaking to a younger version of Eddie. She says: "We're going to fight the war, Eddie. The Great War". She then concludes by saying "Then we're going back to the house to kill him, and burn it all to the ground".
Combine this with the announcement of Tag der Toten and it's clear that it's a final showdown of Primis, Ultimus, possibly Victis and Samantha VS Dr Monty and the Apoithicons/Keepers. I have no doubt that although Dr Maxis was eaten in the Alpha Omega cutscene, he still has a part to play in the final map along with Samantha. With the "house" being a prominent location in the story, especially the ending to Black Ops 2 (Origins), we can also expect that the final BOSS fight takes place there.
Who knows how the story will end, and given the state of the game and Treyarch as a whole, we can only hope that the characters get the sendoff they deserve.
